How to chat on CanadaChat:
#CanadaChat can be found on IRC
(Internet Relay Chat) system, using the Dalnet
network, and Requires an IRC application like MIRC
or X-CHAT. You
can also logon at the Dalnet
site.
First download and install a IRC application like MIRC, X-CHAT.
Then make up a nickname ( /nick <nickname> ) and connect to a dalnet
server ( /server irc.dal.net )
Wait till it the connection is done, and join #CanadaChat ( /join #CanadaChat
). All you do then is chat
Basic Commands
/join <channel> To join the channel <channel>
eg. '/join #canadachat' would bring you in to #canadachat
/part Leave
that channel eg. if typed in the channel #oldsocks '/part' you would leave
#oldsocks
Closing
the channel window dose this to
/quit <message> Disconect from the network eg.
if on Dalnet '/Quit I am going now' will disconect you from
Dalnet with the massage 'Quit: I am going now'. Closing the application
dose this to.
/me <Action> Displays the
Action eg. '/me waves' displays in the chan '* yournick waves '

/beep {number} {delay} Locally beeps 'number' times - 'delayed' beeps.
/channel Pops up channel central window.
/clear Clears entire scrollback buffer - current window.
/clearall Clears text in all open windows.
/ctcp {nickname} {ping|finger|version|time|userinfo|clientinfo} Activates
given ctcp request on nickname.
/ctcps [on|off] Sets the Tools/Remote/ section (not) to listen to CTCP
commands - check status.
/closemsg {nickname} Close query window - to the specified nick.
/creq [ask | auto | ignore] Sets your DCC 'On Chat request' settings
in DCC/Options.
/dcc send {nickname} {file1} {file2} {file3} ... {fileN} Sends specified
files to nick.
/dcc chat {nickname} Opens DCC window - sends a DCC chat request to
specified nick.
/dde [-r] {service} {topic} {item} [data] Allows DDE control between
mIRC - other applications.
/ddeserver [[on [service name] | off] Turn on the DDE server mode, eventually
with a given service name.
/describe {#channel} {action text} Sends the specifed action to specified
channel window.
/disable {#groupname} De-activates group of commands or events.
/disconnect Forces hard and immediate disconnect from IRC server. Use
it with care.
/dlevel {level} Changes default user level in the remote section.
/dns {nickname | IP address | IP name} Uses providers DNS to resolve
IP address.
/echo [nickname|#channel|status] {text} Displays given text only to
YOU at specified place in color N.
/enable {#groupname} Activates group of commands or events.
/events [on|off] Sets Tools/Remote/ section (not) to listen to ON ..

/exit Close and exit mIRC client.
/finger {nick|address} Identifies a specified users address.
/flood [{numberoflines} {seconds} {pausetime}] Sets crude flood control
method.
/flush [levels] Clears all nicknames from Remote/users list currently
not on specified channels.
/font Activates font selection dialog.
/fsend [on|off] Shows fsends status - toggles DCC fast send on / off.
/fserve {nickname} {maxgets} {homedirectory} [welcome text file] Opens
fileserver.
/groups [-e|d] Shows all (enabled or disabled) groups defined in remote
sections.
/guser {level} {nick} [type] Adds user to user list with specified level
- address type.
/help {keyword} Brings up Basic IRC Commands section in mIRC help file.
/ignore [on|off|nickname|address] Toggles ignoring of nick or address
- toggle on / off
/invite {nickname} {#channel} Invites user (nick) to specified channel.
/join {#channel} Join the specified channel.
/kick {#channel} {nickname} Kicks nick off given channel. (founder -
op status required)
/list [#string] [-min #] [-max #] Lists all currently available channels
- filtering for parameters.
/load {-apuce} {filename.ini} Loads Aliases, Popups - Remote items into
mIRC.
/log [on|off] Shows logging status - toggle on / off - current window.
/me {action text} Sends specifed action to active channel or query window.

/mode {#channel|nickname} [[+|-]modechars [parameters]] Sets channel
- user modes.
/msg {nickname} {message} Send private message to nick without opening
a query window.
/names {#channel} Shows nicks of all people on specified channel.
/nick {new nickname} Changes your nick.
/notice {nick} {message} Send specified notice message to nick.
/notify [on|off|nickname] Toggles on / off notifying you of a nick on
IRC
/onotice [#channel] {message} Send specified notice message to all channel
ops.
/omsg [#channel] {message} Send specified message to all ops on a channel.
/part [#channel] [message] Makes you exit the specified channel.
/partall Mass exodus of all current channels.
/ping {server address} Pings given server. NOT a nickname.
/play [-cpqmrlt] [channel/nick] {filename} [delay/linenumber] Allows
you to play text files.
/pop {delay} [#channel] {nickname} Performs randomly delayed +o on a
not already opped nick. (founder - op status required)
/protect [on|off|nickname|address] Toggles on / off protection of a
nick - address.
/query {nickname} {message} Open query window to this user and send
private message.
/quit [reason] Disconnect from IRC with optional departing message.
/raw [on|off] Sets Tools/Remote/ section (not) to observe Raw commands
- checks status.
/raw {raw command} Sends any raw command you supply directly to server.

/remote [on|off] Set Tools/Remote/ section (not) to listen CTCP or Raw
remote commands - events. status.
/rlevel {access level} Removes all users from remote users list with
specified access level.
/run {c:\path\program.exe} [parameters] Runs specified program, evt.
with parameters.
/ruser {nick[!]|address} [type] Removes user from remote users list.
/save [-apuce] {filename.ini} Saves remote sections into a specified
INI file.
/say {text} Says whatever you want to the active window.
/server [server address [port] [password]] Reconnects to previous server
or a newly specified one.
/sound [nickname|#channel] {filename.wav} {action text} Sends an action
and a fitting sound request.
/speak {text} External text to speech program Monologue to speak up
text. /gtalk with mIRC's Agent support.
/sreq [ask | auto | ignore] Sets DCC 'On Send request' settings in DCC/Options.
/time Current time on the server.
/timer[N] {repetitions} {interval in seconds} {command} [| {more commands}]
Activates timer.
/timestamp [on | off] Toggles timestamping on or off for all conversations.
/topic {#channel} {newtopic} Changes topic for specified channel.
/ulist {level} Lists all users in remote list with specified access
levels.
/url [on|off|show|hide] [address] Opens URL window that allows you to
surf www parallel to IRC.
/uwho [nick] Pops up the user central with information about the specified
user.
/splay {c:\path\sound.file} Locally plays specified sound file.
/who {#channel} Shows nicks of all people on given channel.
/who {*part.of.address*} Shows all people on IRC with matching address.
/whois {nickname} Shows information about nick in status window. Also
/uwho.
/whowas {nickname} Shows nick information of IRC user that recently
exited channel.
/write [-cidl] {filename} [text] To write specified text to .txt file.
