A History of #femalemasturbation

1994	DALnet founded, August, 1994 - the first IRC network to have channel and nickname registration. When was #femalemasturbation registered? The exact date is lost in the mists of... well... nobody remembers. 1994? 1995? 1996? One thing we know - females have been masturbating longer than the channel has been around.
1996	Did you know that #femalemasturbation was founded by.... a man? "Dr. Jones", a male chiropracter from Salt Lake City, Utah founded the channel sometime in the 1995-1996 timeframe. Dr. Jones' nickname was "retina", (he also used "penthouse" as a nickname). He was a gentleman, and a dirty old man. He'd drop in to say "hi", but whenever the women guests would begin a scene he'd politely excuse himself. He also founded the all-gender #masturbation channel on DALnet. Many of our SOPs today were members back then - ask Sweet_Jane or GingerB or SilverVx about "retina" and they'll tell you some stories that will curl your hair... if you don't shave down there of course!
1997	debbie25 (who stopped aging at age 30 due to not bothering to change her nickname every year ) becomes a regular visitor and an OP. Sometime in 1997, debbie25 gave Dr. Jones a hard time about something (she doesn't even remember what it was!) and the good Dr. deregistered #femalemasturbation. Oops! After a brief week-long uprising in which the channel fell into evil hands, debbie25 got it back with the help of a kindly IRCop. Whew!
1998	ceridwen aka tiggirl aka cammy begins running the Guard_Kitty bot - who was a pussycat to all the nice girls but a snarling tiger to guys and troublemakers. 2000	The height of DALnet's popularity. #femalemasturbation is crowded with as many as 30 women in channel at once. It is mostly banter and fun in the channel, and scening is done in private.
2001	Oct 18, 2001: jill^^ becomes founder as Debbie30 is too busy to give #fm the attention it needs. Here's how it really happened - see how much "politics" there is here on #femalemasturbation? Often there were no servers or just one server on line and it could take hours to get a connection. Membership plummeted. Often the channel was empty. Many of the OPs and members fled to other IRC networks or offline as it just became too hard to chat. Despite the FBI and other worldwide law enforcement raids and arrests the attacks continued.
2002	The dark ages.... few members because of the hacker attacks. But... we have it on reliable authority that women CONTINUED TO MASTURBATE despite being unable to access the channel. Brave women...
2003	Even through the worst of the DALnet outages, #femalemasturbation continued to be a special place for those who were able to get through to log on. Towards the end of 2003 the attacks stopped (mostly), and old friends began to return, and new friends discovered this little corner of pleasure, love, and caring. 2004	As much as things change - they stay the same. #femalemasturbation has always been about fun and silliness - April 20, 2004 - and about old friends and new friends - February 27, 2004 - meeting and sharing and supporting each other in loving sisterhood!
