DALnet #Sibu Channel - Guides on Services Command
NickServ
![]()
Register
Command syntax:
/nickserv register y0urPassword your@email.address
Command description
This command registers the nick of the user to the
NickServ database. It sets a nick access password as well
as a valid email address for authentication purpose.
Command example
If Nice^Nick is not registered by someone else and you
would like to be the proud owner of this nick, then you
need to ensure that you are currently using this nick.
If you are currently not using Nice^Nick, you need to
type /nick Nice^Nick <enter>
To register this nick, you can type:
/nickserv register mYS3cr3tPass nicenick@sibu.dal.net
What Next?
Your Nice^Nick is not fully registered yet and you will
have to check your mail box for a confirmation mail
send to you from DALnet. Read this mail carefully to
avoid unnecessary misunderstanding or problem(s)
which are related to your nick.
Near to the end of the mail, you will find a set of
instructions telling you to complete your nick registration
with the AUTH code given. The AUTH code is a very long
string of numbers. Now log on to DALnet and copy the
command line starting from the forward slash "/".
Example,
/msg nickserv@services.dal.net AUTH nice^nick 973459497394
Paste the above command into your status window and
hit that <enter> key. If you bump into problem, then I
would suggest you type the following in your status
window (replace whatever is necessary with actual data):
/nickserv auth nice^nick 973459497394
Now hit that <enter> key and you should be congratulated
for being proud owner of this Nice^Nick.
Special requirement
1) The nick you want to register must not have been
registered by someone else;
2) You must enter a valid email address so that you can
receive the Authentication mail containing the AUTH code;
3) Allow at least up to 48 hours for the mail to reach you.
Under normal circumstances, the mail should be sent to
you within a couple of minutes. If DALnet mail Servers
(Daemon) are busy or flooded, then more time is required.
4) Starting from the time when the Authentication mail is
despatched to you, you are given 48 hours to enter the
AUTH code. Failure to enter AUTH code will render your nick's
expiry and you will have to go through the registration
procedure once again.
Comments
The nick password you use is Case-Sensitive and you are
advised to write it down somewhere only for your own
reference. Guard your nick password or else you are
going to learn a tough lesson.
