Guide to Users who have problems
1) You are unable to join the channel because it says "you require an identified nick to join #Sibu" Due to mass inviting, spams and floodnets, we have introduced measure to reduce such incidences. One of these measures taken is the introduction of channel mode +R (for registered nicks only)
To register your own nick, please do these:- 1) choose a nick that is not already registered, type /nick newNick 2) type /nickserv register goodNickpassword valid@email.address 3) retrieve an email send to you from NickServ and follow the instruction in the mail and complete your nick registration with the AUTH code given (don't use the users' website, it is not working at the moment -- instead, type the whole command line or paste it in your IRC "status window"
Please note that users can seek online help with /nickserv help register (type this while online in IRC and type it in the status window)
2) If you cannot join #Sibu channel because you have been banned and not knowing the reason(s), please write to sibu-sop@yahoogroups.com and remember to include the following information :-
a) Your Nick b) IP address ( e.g. myNick!myIdent@IP.Host.Mask ) c) Timelog ( GMT+8 ) = based on Malaysian time d) Your valid email address
3) If you are kicked and banned without reason, please write to sibu-sop@yahoogroups.com and remember to include the following information :-
a) Your Nick b) IP address ( please refer to item (1) ) c) Timelog ( GMT+8 ) d) /whois @opnick ( the one who kicked and banned you ) e) Any additional information relating to your ban ( please be honest or you may even be AKICKed ) * copy and paste into your mail the relevant logfile will help speedier investigation ) f) Your valid email address

Due to channel's increasing popularity, the channel has attracted mass advertisers who are auto messaging their websites to users who join the channel. Most of these advertisements are pornography websites which are curses of the perverts who do not care if the visitors are children or underaged teens. These unscrupulous pornography pedlars are one of the most obnoxious eTerrorists one has to encounter and deal with when surfing the internet.
We have discovered that most of these mass advertisers employed spam-bots to deliver their deadly packages. These bots are launched from :
a) unsecured proxy servers; b) hacked or compromised servers; and c) infected or compromised IRC Scripts.
In order to eradicate or reduce this problem, we are testing out various methods to prevent these unpleasant experience in the channel. At present, we are testing the channel mode +R which prevent unidentified nicks to join our channel. There are other methods which we consider for trial in the near future. In the mean time, please help to teach your friends how to register their own nick and how to identify their nicks to join the channel.
